Berlin Wall - Cold War Symbol

Finally, exactly 50 years ago, August 13, 1961, the City of Berlin which is the capital of the Republic Federal of Germany, divided into two side with Berlin Wall: 1) The eastern side controlled by Soviet Union, 2) the western side controlled by three democratic nations, the United States (U.S.), English, and France.

Fifty years ago, the signs of Germany separation that will be divided into two side when East German army, under the leadership of Walter Ulbricht who supported the Soviet Union, put up barbed wire and bricks. They consider West Berlin was a "hole" in their country.

The next few years, then made permanent barrier called "Berlin Wall".Keep in mind, the Berlin Wall not only "simply" separating Germany into East Germany and West Germany, but also a symbol of the Cold War, which is laden with political and military rivalry between the Soviet Union and the United States.

Twelve years since the end of the Second World War (ie 1957), between 2.5 million to 3 million residents of East Berlin moved to West Berlin in search of a better livelihood. Earlier, in the middle of the building of the Berlin Wall, as many as 1,000 residents in East Berlin every day to flee to the West and East German economies cause decreasing (which is why the East German communist government, with Soviet approval, implement an automatic rifle and an armed guard sensors around the Berlin Wall to prevent the exodus.

On 9 November 1989, along with the fading Soviet domination, the people in East Germany decided to tear down the Berlin Wall.This event then support the reunification of Germany on October 3, 1990.
