2011 British Asparagus Festival

The 2011 British Asparagus Festival will be taking place across the UK. York, Oxfordshire, West Sussex, Dorset, Merseyside and The Cotswolds will pay homage to this famed vegetable in a bout of festivities and events.

Accommodation in The Cotswolds is abundant, so why not make a weekend of it and stay in this beautiful part of the country and enjoy the festivities of the British Asparagus Festival in Evesham.
In the Vale of Evesham, in the Cotswolds, celebrations will begin with The Great British Asparagus Run on the 23rd April 2011.

On the 30th May there will be an asparagus auction held at The Fleece Inn in Bretforton. This historic auction will celebrate some of the finest “Gras” in the world plus, you’ll have the chance to meet Gus – the Vales very own asparagus man!

Then on the 31st May a fun-packed day is planned. Enjoy the asparagus farmers market, cooking demonstrations, asparagus tasting and a craft fayre.

To add even more fun and frolics to the mix, The Little Soap Company is pledging that the men of Evesham should wear Shorts for this year’s competition to crown the Asparaking! They will paint the legs of the willing men to resemble a spear of asparagus and the guy with the most asparagus looking legs, will win! And what do you win… You’ll get an asparagus crown AND a bar of Little Asparagus Soap!So, if you’re interested in taking part in this traditional, pop down to Evesham Town Centre 10am onwards.

And the love for the asparagus continues….. Those who love the ‘Asparbus Tours’ will be pleased to note that the tours will be running again on 13, 20 and 27 May and 3 June.

On the 4th and 5th June The Balloon Festival will begin. Enjoy music, classic cars, hot air balloons, fireworks and illuminated balloons. The 5th June the celebrations continue with the Asparagus Fun Olympics!
Who knew celebrating a simple side dish would create so much excitement, festivities and events suitable for the whole family!
